Motorcycle Accidents in Colorado

Motorcycle Accidents in Colorado

A significant amount of people die every year in motorcycle accidents in Colorado. Our motorcycle accident attorneys have taken the time to offer a word of advice and some tips for riding safe on Colorado roads:

Motorcycle accident fatalities in the state of Colorado continue to increase at a rather high rate every year; 1 out of 5 traffic accident fatalities in the year 2010 involved motorcyclists.

CDOTS Office of Transportationhas created programs and public awareness campaigns in an effort to minimize the number of motorcycle accidents and keep Colorado roadways safe. One way they have accomplished this goal is by encouraging proper training and endorsements for motorcycle riders of all skill levels. Last year Colorado experienced nearly 100 motorcycle accident fatalities, and one-third of those operators did not possess a motorcycle endorsement.

70% of these motorcycle accident fatalities were over the age of 40; of this group 20% did not possess an endorsement.

“Live to Ride”

CDOTS live to ride campaign is designed to help motorcyclists of all skill levels ride safely, have a good time, and most importantly stay alive while riding. Live to Ride endorses three primary safety messages:

GET TRAINING:Lack of training is a huge factor in Colorado’s fatal motorcycle crashes.

RIDE SOBER:Impaired riding is also a major problem. 40% of riders killed in motorcycle accidents in 2009 were under the influence of alcohol.

WEAR PROPER PROTECTIVE GEAR:Nearly two thirds of the riders killed in Colorado last year were not wearing a helmet, or were wearing it improperly.
